Enhancing Vocabulary Acquisition Through Storytelling: Evidence from İnal and Çakır’s (2014) Study

The study by İnal and Çakır (2014) highlights the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary through storytelling techniques, emphasizing that stories provide meaningful and engaging contexts for learning and retaining vocabulary.

This research compared an experimental group, which learned vocabulary through storytelling, with a control group that used traditional methods. A total of 90 students participated in the study.

The findings revealed that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group in both immediate vocabulary acquisition (mean score: 75.5 vs. 50.4) and long-term vocabulary retention (mean score: 81.53 vs. 33.23). The results indicate that storytelling enhances incidental vocabulary learning, reinforces repeated exposure to words, and increases learner motivation.
